Homeland Security's four divisions (Border and Transportation Security; Emergency Preparedness and Response; Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Countermeasures; and Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection) are designed to focus resources and efforts across local, state, and national agencies and the services of fire protection, emergency medical services, law enforcement, emergency management and others. Responding to this leadership initiative, the Institute of Emergency Services and Homeland Security (IESHS) at Utah Valley State College will work to connect existing programs and security efforts into a cohesive body of working partners.

Research Program

The Research Program will be developed and administered within the Platform for Research and Specialized Program Development. As funding becomes available, faculty and other specialists will be engaged in research to develop the most up-to-date information/strategies to be disseminated across all disciplines. We are open to direct invitations and expressions of interest from federal, state, local emergency responders, and security agencies. We will partner with them to deliver training and lead the research efforts reflecting the national effort for prevention, preparation, response, mitigation, and recovery from disasters or threats to security.

Outreach Program

The Outreach Program will be charged with the responsibility of marketing and needs assessment for the institute. By attending local, regional, and national conferences, outreach personnel will network with other people, facilitating the exchange of programs and ideas. Other proven marketing strategies will be employed to ensure that institute programs and information are readily available and widely known. The outreach program will also create and maintain a database of all students, sponsors, and presenters participating in IESHS sponsored events.
